Introduction

《上帝保佑拉脱维亚》是拉脱维亚的国歌。作曲人及作词人皆为卡尔利斯·包马尼斯。
歌曲及歌词由卡尔利斯·包马尼斯于1873年所写，他是一名教师，同时是拉脱维亚国家青年运动的一分子。有人指出，包马尼斯歌词的一部分，可能是从一首流行歌曲而来，而这首歌的曲调是《天佑吾王》，然后他把歌词修改后再重新谱曲。包马尼斯的原版歌词跟现在的有点不同：因为当拉脱维亚是波罗的海总督国的一部分，所以他使用了“波罗的海”一词，而且歌词有时会使用“拉脱维亚”或“拉脱维亚人”，但是它们可以互相交换，因此只有第一段有“拉脱维亚”一词。到后期，为免歌曲被禁，所有“拉脱维亚”都被改成“波罗的海”。因此在1920年时，有歌词本身就没有“拉脱维亚”的误解；在1920年，它被选作国歌，所有的“波罗的海”都被换成“拉脱维亚”。
