Introduction
《希望之歌》原词系由加利西亚诗人纳夫塔里·赫尔茨·伊姆贝尔于1878年所创作。当时共9节，名字叫做《我们的希望》。它第一次被 Rishon LeZion 编辑，然后在1948年前又作了一系列的改动。现代版本只有原诗的第一段的合唱。最重要的那段版本不再是要回到锡安山，而是要在那儿建立一个自由的国家。
以色列国歌的音乐是源自罗马尼亚传统民谣“Cucuruz cu frunza-n sus”，由出身于比萨拉比亚的移民山姆·柯亨改编而成。捷克作曲家贝多伊齐·史麦塔纳的著名交响诗《我的祖国》第二首《伏尔塔瓦河》中也曾经引用相类的乐段。
1897年，第一次犹太复国主义者大会，它成为犹太复国主义者的国歌，之后它被作曲家Paul Ben-Haim编为管弦乐。1948年5月14日创立以色列国时，它被宣布为以色列国国歌。
《希望之歌》是用小调写的，对很多西方人来说是压抑悲哀的调子，但标题《希望之歌》表明歌曲的情感实际上是振奋人心的。
第一节，"我们的希望从未失去"可以和波兰国歌里“波兰从未输掉”对比是多么的相似以及犹太复国主义者和波兰民族主义者之间的相似性。
