Beethoven Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C Major, Op. 56

1804年，贝多芬为小提琴、大提琴、钢琴和管弦乐团谱写的《三重奏协奏曲》是为他的赞助人鲁道夫大公创作。鲁道夫在一年前开始跟随贝多芬学习作曲，但由于他演奏能力有限，贝多芬有意将《三重奏协奏曲》的钢琴部分的技术要求设计得比小提琴和大提琴部分的要简单得多。然而在这部特别的作品中，贝多芬将聚光灯紧紧地跟随在大提琴身上：在大提琴与其他独奏乐器进行对话前，就呈现了几乎所有重要的音乐主题材料。此外，管弦乐队除了在第一乐章开始，呈现出宽广气势磅礴的旋律之外，贝多芬几乎将乐思都分配给三个独奏乐器，而管弦乐队仅仅起到辅助作用。相比之下，随后的第二乐章以柔和的弦乐和贝多芬最具表现力的旋律特色优美的开场，却出人意料的简短。然而，贝多芬并没有直接带领我们迈向终乐章，中间乐章充满令人振奋和华丽辉煌的旋律。1808年5月，《三重奏协奏曲》在维也纳首次公演。虽然反响冷淡，但这次失败应该归咎于演奏者不稳定的演奏能力而不是贝多芬的作曲质量。
