莫扎特的《第 24 号钢琴协奏曲》完成于 1786年初，当年四月在维也纳城堡剧院首演，被许多人认为是莫扎特最杰出的钢琴协奏曲。这部为长笛、定音鼓、弦乐、两支双簧管、单簧管、巴松、圆号和小号创作的作品，是他所有协奏曲中规模最大的一部，为交响创作带来了新的丰富性与灵活性。在开场乐章“快板”里，乐器的响度强调了主要主题简单的节奏，情感的烈度蔓延至更为抒情的第二主题。莫扎特在这个乐章和最终乐章里都没有安排华彩段，因此后世的作曲家和钢琴家必须在乐曲归于无声前自行加入华彩。“小广板”围绕一段优雅迷人的旋律展开，木管乐器与独奏钢琴水乳交融，展现出绚丽的交响色彩，同时轮番奏出类似小夜曲的音乐。潜在的张力延续到终曲“小快板”中，讥谐的主题衍生出 8个变奏，尽显丰富的表现力。乐曲尾声和《第 20 号钢琴奏鸣曲》不同，小调一直持续到音乐结束。
