维瓦尔第《四季》由四部独立的小提琴协奏曲组成，其中第二部《夏》描述了酷热难耐的暑日场景。高音小提琴描述的懒散场景被鸟鸣声打扰；与乐曲对应的十四行诗此时提到了“斑鸠和金翅雀”，但在小提琴中听到的则是布谷鸟慵懒的叫声。小提琴独奏带出一股令人颤抖的寒风，盘旋的高音弦乐又加强了风的威力。有那么一瞬间，似乎风声渐息，但随后又全力返回，让乐章在高潮中收尾。在第二乐章“桑板”中，牧羊人担心即将到来的暴风雨，独奏的旋律频频出现不协和音，表现出焦虑的情绪。弦乐奏出不祥的虫鸣，代表十四行诗中提到的恼人蚊蝇。终曲“急板”无情地将一切一扫而空,酝酿已久的暴风雨终于降临。十四行诗在这里告诉我们“天空轰鸣，冰雹坠落”，但即便没有解释，我们也会从弦乐声部上下翻飞的十六分音符和独奏小提琴奏出的炫目霹雳中明确感受到天地之威。小提琴的技巧在这里被展现得淋漓尽致，交响乐团将观众带入一场大自然的汹涌舞蹈，让人无处可逃。
